Flies and Equipment..

Whether you’re an avid fisherman or just trying to fulfill your curiosity there are some things you will require for your fishing trip.

A 9’fly rod with a floating line, size #8 or #9 and about 100 yards of backing should do the trick. Ordinary leader and braided nylon sinking leaders – depending on water conditions. We do rent rods and reels at a nominal cost but you must bring your own waders.

April 15 – May 31
During the spring season a spare spool with sinking tip for high water is a must. Fishing is almost always done from a boat during the spring so waders are not necessary but please make sure you bring waterproof insulated boots, rain gear and warm clothing as temperatures fluctuate from 40 degrees F (4-5 C) to the high 60’s (15+C) Insect repellant is not necessary at this time of year!
Larger hairwing flies in sizes 2.0 are recommended. Some of the favorite spring flies are but not limited to Renous Special, Golden Eagle, Elmer’s Special , Red Eagle, Black Ghost and Miramichi. We carry a large inventory of flies that we suggest you purchase at the lodge to ensure right patterns- wet flies for spring fishing, dry for other times.

June – September
Fishing is done by wading the river and all waders must have a felt sole for better traction. Wading staffs are not needed.

During the summer and fall runs, the water is lower and floating lines and smaller single or double hook flies in sizes 4-10 are usually used. Some of the favorites used at this time of year are Green Machine, Tippet Shrimp, Black Bear Green Butt, Hair Wing Blue Charm and dry flies such as the Glitter Bug and Bombers.

** No matter what time of year you are fishing there are a few things that you will need such as polarized sunglasses and a hat.
